IT IS WELL
As I began homeschooling my children, I truly loved teaching them history. They however did not feel the same way about history as I did. Over time, they began to become intrigued with History. Finally it became one of the most favorite subjects for them to learn!! Lucky for me because I loved digging into our history and teaching it to them!
I find that even now if there is a movie or television show "based" on a true story, I'm already reading the true history of it before the movie or show is over. I know, I'm a super big nerd, but who cares :D
A while ago, I fell in love with one of my most favorite Hymns, "It Is Well With My Soul". Anytime I heard this song whether it be instrumental, or vocal, my heart seemed to bow in reverence to Christ our Lord. I would end up listening to it several times in a row, until my soul seemed full enough of the words and melody.
Being the history lover that I am, I had to find out what wonderful person created such beautiful lryics! As I began my research, I read about the man who wrote these beautiful words. Horatio Gates Spafford, wrote these lyrics back in 1873. Haratio and His wife's son had died two years prior, and Horatio wanted his family to go visit Europe for a Holiday. He had a friend by the name of D.L Moody, who would be preaching in England later that fall. Horatio was detained by business, but decided to send his Wife and four daughters ahead of him.
While on route to England, the ship collided with an iron sailing vessel, over 200 people died, which included Mr. Spaffords' four daughters. His wife Anna survived. When she got to England, she sent a telegram to her husband, saying "Saved alone".
As Mr. Spafford sailed to England and Crossed over the spot where his daughters along with so many others had perished, it is believed he wrote these precious words.
To think that this man, who had lost all of his children could cling to God even as he passed the location of where the incident happened. There were absolutely no words to express how I felt after reading this. My heart wanted to cling to God this way, in this manner, always.
I bought a lovely wooden sign that I keep in my office, just as a reminder, not to fear the unknown, not to forget that even during the most difficult times, I must remember,
I will always remember what Mr. Spafford went through and how he buried his face into the arms of the Lord during his most difficult time.
Here is one of my most favorite renditions of this song. Please enjoy.
God Bless Family.

"When peace like a river, attendeth my way,Today I looked at that sign, and it touched my heart again. A sweet reminder from the Lord.
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say
It is well, it is well, with my soul"
I will always remember what Mr. Spafford went through and how he buried his face into the arms of the Lord during his most difficult time.
God Bless Family.
