GENERATION Y & Z
The other morning I was out getting a few things at the store for the kiddos. I was walking along and saw many elderly people out and about shopping. You could tell some were in the Navy and Army. I observed some who had their Branch tattoos, others just had their caps on representing what branch they had served. It made me think of how much history they have, how much the world has changed.
I was polite to them as I am with all people, using the common words, "excuse me, pardon me, thank you." and I saw some grin, and some look a little shocked. I thought to myself. Now a days, how much respect do these elderly people really get? I mean if you really think about it, our generation the
"Millennials"or Y genteration. ..Some of the early ones we were brought up to respect our elders, not talk back, and we knew what a spanking was if we were to get out of line.
But there are some of the later Millennials, and now what are called the "Z generation" some of these children, wow....I'm speechless at how some of these children speak and treat their parents, grandparents, teachers, even strangers. I know first hand how disrespectful some of these children can be. It is SO HARD not to check them, and let them know that the world does NOT revolve around them.
No, doing this would possibly detour a child from Christ. I know that according to James 1:19-20; it gives me qualities needed in trials.
So then,my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
I urge you mothers, aunts, and grandmothers, fathers, uncles, grandfathers, be that person that helps your kin learn to be respectful to their elders. Start at a young age, so that it's second nature to them. Ask God for the wisdom to be patient for the right words to speak and the correct measures needed to show the child/teen that this is the proper way to treat others.
1 Peter 5:1-4
The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed: Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.
Now I'm sure you think my kids are SUPER PERFECT KIDDOS; but they are far from perfect, and I have to make sure I address the attitude given to me or to other adults right away, otherwise before you know it, they're 18 years old, and really don't want to have anything to do with what I'm trying to teach.
Some elderly family members tell me that I hide my children, that they wont get interaction with other students their age because I am choosing to home school. That I am too strict, that when they get older they are going to do whatever they want anyway...
And to this I say the following.... "I know my children are going to grow older, and I know they will be faced with tough decisions, but the Bible says, train a child in the way he should go and when he is old he shall not depart from it. So right there God is telling me to train them, and when they get older, I want to know in my heart that I did all I could do to raise my children the best way I possibly could."
I know how hard it can be to hush your mouth and let the elderly person speak their mind, but I also know that God is always protecting me and I have to learn to bite my tongue. It works wonders. lol...
1 Peter 5:5
Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.
