WORDS MATTER

A while ago I read an article about an experiment conducted by Dr. Masaru Emoto, a Japanese researcher and photographer, who attempted to determine if words, prayers, music, or photos might have an effect on water molecules. Emoto does this by surrounding the water molecules with an assortment of things: photos, loving and hateful words, different kinds of music, and various prayers. The effect is captured by taking enhanced photos of the water molecules as they are freezing.

Water molecules that had the positive photos, words, music and prayers formed beautiful crystal shapes, almost like a fresh snowflake. The water molecules that had the negative variables became extremely misshaped, unattractive in color, and even scary looking.

While reading this research, my heart was quite saddened. They used one word in particular that made me tear up: anger. The molecule surrounded by anger was empty and lacking in its photograph. At times we as women can be quick to anger, and we may have an honest reason to be, but we may find ourselves feeling empty and lacking also.

Though some scientists have disputed Emoto’s experiment and findings since then, we do agree with Proverbs 18:21 which tells us, “Death and Life are in the power of the tongue.” We do know that the words we speak to our husband, children, family, friends, even ourselves truly matter. That words can heal or hurt.

In terms of speaking life to ourselves, do we? How many times do we stare in the mirror picking out everything we hate about ourselves and wishing it looked different. How much better your life would be if you look the way you thought you should look. This kind of thinking can quietly turn into self hate. When you're hating yourself, you tend to treat others no so great either.

Sisters, we serve a God who can change our thought pattern, speech, our hearts, and so much more. Let this year be a new beginning, speaking positive words to others as well as ourselves. Let us look at ourselves and remember that the creator of the world created us fearfully and wonderfully. Let us press into Jesus when our words seem to be more toxic than life-giving, because we know that our words and prayers do make a difference.

Let this be our prayer...

Dear Lord, I ask that you do a wondrous work inside my heart. Help me to guard my heart and words, letting the negativity go. Instead, replace them with your life-giving words, thoughts, and feelings. When people speak with me, let them hear your peace and love through me. May the words I speak to my family, friends, and strangers build them up. I ask that this year be a new beginning with more worship and prayer than ever before, that they may be honoring to you. In Jesus name I pray, amen.

Love Net-
